FIELD NOTES
A space for reflection, research, and visual thinking.
Field Notes is where ideas are explored before they become finished work. It holds observations, curiosity, and visual studies that inform my approach to photography.
These articles are not assignments or commissions. They are personal investigations, responses to places, events, exhibitions, and questions that continue to shape how I see, photograph, art and digest my experiences of the world.
Some notes are image-led. Others begin with text, offering a glimpse into process, influence, and intention.
What I Left With From the 60th Venice Biennale Arte
A group of art school friends and I have been visiting the Biennale Arte in Venice since 2009, which showcases international art exhibitions. The 60th Biennale presented a thought-provoking collection curated by Adriano Pedrosa with the theme "Foreigners Everywhere," featuring artists from countries not widely represented in high-brow settings. This collection led me to reflect on the concept of belonging and the feeling of being a foreigner, ultimately recognizing the shared and diverse experiences of people around the world.
Eclipse: What is a Portrait?
On April 8th, I had the pleasure of seeing a total solar eclipse. Despite usually preferring to be fully present in the moment rather than capturing events with a camera, the significant anticipation and hype surrounding the eclipse compelled me to photograph it. As a photographer specializing in portraiture, this experience sparked a deeper exploration of the concept of a portrait and its significance.
