I have had the pleasure of working with models at various stages of their careers, from those just starting out to established professionals. I work with them on campaigns and editorials, as well as help create or enhance their model portfolios. One of the essential tools for all models is what are commonly known as modeling digitals. These images, formerly referred to as "polaroids," provide a straightforward and unembellished representation of a model's appearance. But what are they, why are they so crucial, and how can you ensure that your digitals stand out to casting?

I received feedback suggesting my portfolio needed more high-end professional models, but I started pondering the amount of skill needed from a photographer to work with new faces. Guiding inexperienced models to create compelling images takes major skill. While I acknowledge the need to adapt to new technologies and incorporate high-end content into my portfolio, I see value in creating great images regardless of the model's experience.
